6 Criteria to Clean Your Closet Without Regrets

By: Sandra Ortiz

How do I clean my closet? This is the question many of us ask when we have to get rid of clothes we are attached to. These tips can help you get rid of your clothes without having to work so hard.

All of us, at some point in our lives, have gone through the classic “I don’t know what to wear” (even if your closet is full of things). And, you probably don’t even notice many of the clothes consuming space in your closet because they’ve gone out of style or you never know what to wear them with. If this is the case, maybe it’s time to clean your closet and get rid of all those clothes that are just there for decoration.

How do you know what to say goodbye to? Here are the signs that this garment must go on to a better life!

You make excuses

If you are debating whether to get rid of a garment or not and think “I can’t throw it away because my mom gave it to me” or “Someday it will fit me again,” the answer is that you should get rid of that garment as soon as possible. When you really like something, you don’t give it that much thought.

It’s stained, worn out or torn

Have you worn that blouse so much that it’s now worn out? If that’s the case, you might want to give a new garment a try. The same if it’s torn or has stains that can’t be removed, not even with a miracle.

It still has the tags

Probably, that dress stored in the back of your closet is brand new because you never found anything to wear it with. And even though it’s out of style, you don’t want to let it go because you’re mortified to get rid of something you never wore. If this is your case, the best thing you can do is say goodbye to it! You can try to sell it online or in vintage stores to not feel so bad and get some money back.

It doesn’t fit

It’s common that when you gain weight, you don’t want to get rid of the things that remind you of when you were thinner. It could be a kind of reminder that you should go back to that size. But if after a few years you are still the same, the best thing to do is to let go of those clothes and set new goals.

You have worn it too little

You may really like that skirt, but every time you wear it, you feel that it doesn’t flatter you, so in total you have worn it very little. If this is the case, say goodbye and make way for something you feel more comfortable in.

Everything looks alike

Do you have five black t-shirts that look very similar? Black may be your favorite color, but having several shirts in the same shade doesn’t add versatility to your closet. To decide which ones stay and which ones go, think about when you last wore them. If it’s been neglected for more than a year, get rid of it.
